A lil about me...
Currently living in The Heights of Houston, TX, making a living being creative with passionate people.
This is the personal website for Tim (or Timothy) DeSilva, which is me, so I'm going to stop writing in third person now because you'll find a formal bio down below, and, well, fuck that nonsense! I think it's funny when people write about themselves in third person and I sure didn't hire a publicist to write this shit. So. With that, here we go...
I grew up just outside of NYC and moved to Houston, Texas nearly 20 years ago. I hated it. I really did. Never did I think I'd one day turn into an advocate for this brilliant, undervalued city. Houston is home to some of the most culturally diverse communities, comprised of culinary masterminds, creative thinkers, scientists and engineers, medical geniuses, and more artists, galleries, museums and theaters than you can shake a fist at. Trust me, I shake a lot of fists. The best part? All these creative people are pretty damn nice.
Having been schooled in fine art and traditional graphic design, I've lead my professional career toward speaking and working on my passions in design thinking, brand development, art direction, business growth strategy and the future of culture and technology.
Together with a group of amazing friends and collaborators, we're living in the future, growing passionate businesses through a company we call Culture Pilot. We're also big proponents of community building and event curation at Culture Pilot through the likes of the TEDxHouston and VISUALIZED Conferences. There is something magical about getting people together in person to share interactive experiences with one another.
I have huge respect for and spend time in practice of Typography. Not necessarily inventing new type, but making great use of what's already ready already. In practice, I love to sketch, which lately tends to be more so in the form of visual note taking (recent doodles to the rightbelow).
Music is my sanity, my inspiration, my well-being. I have a sickening fixation with music discovery, KEXP, and sharing music with loved ones. And thanks to some really wonderful friends, I dabble in Ukulele.
I'm extremely thankful for having the most giving friends and family I could have ever hoped to meet in one lifetime. Without these fine beings, I'd be locked up in an imaginary prison called Azkaban, banging my head against the wall, dreaming about the days of youth when things were easier and we didn't have a care in the world because we thought we'd live forever and we felt invincible and we didn't need to pay bills or worry about back pain and our eye sight was still pretty good because we didn't stare at screens all day, but maybe we played too many video games when we should have been reading a good book but that was okay because it developed great hand eye coordination and it kept us out of trouble... most of the time. I've completely lost my train of thought. But how was that for a run on sentence?
Formal bio: Tim DeSilva has a formal education in fine art and graphic design and as founder of Culture Pilot, he has led a professional career in consulting, speaking and working on passions in design thinking, brand development, art direction, business growth strategy and the future of culture and technology. He is an advocate for the creative economy of Houston and in collaboration with Culture Pilot and creative thought leaders, produces the TEDxHouston and VISUALIZED conferences. When not at Culture Pilot, you'll find Tim on a bicycle. Or on foot. Or in the garden. And most likely bitching about bad typography.
